Less than half of all adults 18 to 44 years of age in the United States have been tested for a sexually transmitted disease other than HIV. However, an estimated 15 million people world wide become infected with one or more sexually transmitted diseases (STD) each year. In the U.S. alone, more than 65 million people are currently living with an STD and roughly half of them have contracted an incurable lifelong STD such as herpes.

Most sexually transmitted diseases fall into one of two categories – Viral infections and bacterial infections. Bacterial infections, such as gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia are curable with antibiotics. STDs caused by viruses such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), human papilloma virus (HPV), herpes and hepatitis B are not curable.

As far as bacterial STD’s, Chlamydia is by far the most common among women; most likely because it is very contagious and difficult to detect. In fact, an estimated 75 percent of women and 50 percent of men with chlamydia have no symptoms. All sexually active women should ask to be tested with each Pap smear, because untreated, chlamydia can cause infertility or pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). An estimated 2.8 million Americans are infected with chlamydia each year. Luckily, chlamydia, as well as gonorrhea and syphilis, can be cured with antibiotics.

In 2002, 351,852 cases of gonorrhea were reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In the United States, approximately 75 percent of all reported cases of gonorrhea are found in people aged 15 to 29 years. The highest rates of infection are usually found in 15- to 19-year old women and 20- to 24-year-old men.

Once responsible for devastating epidemics, the rate of primary and secondary syphilis in the United States actually declined from 1990 to 2000 by 89.2 percent. However, there was still a reported 5,979 cases of syphilis in 2000 and 6,103 in 2001 so syphilis is still out there infecting people.

Of all the non-curable viral STD’s our there, HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, is probably the most feared; and for good reason. There were nearly 45,000 New AIDS cases reported in the U.S. in 2004 and a cumulative total of over 500,000 people have died from HIV/AIDs in the U.S. alone since the disease was first diagnosed. Currently over 400,000 people in the U.S. are living with HIV/AIDs right now. That means about 1 out of every 700 U.S. citizens has contracted HIV/AIDs.

Genital Herpes, while not a potential death sentence like HIV/AIDS, is however much more prolific. Some estimates suggest that as many as 1 in 5 people may carry some form of the herpes virus in their body. That is a staggering figure. Forms of the herpes virus include cold sores, genital herpes, chickenpox, mononucleosis and shingles. Medical treatment can, however, alleviate the symptoms of viral STDs such as herpes and in some cases eliminate symptoms without actually elimination the herpes virus itself. About one million people become infected with Herpes each year in the U.S., and an estimated 45 million are currently infected with the herpes virus. An estimated 75 percent of the reproductive-age population has been infected with sexually transmitted HPV. Genital warts are caused by HPV, and can lead to cervical and bladder cancers. There’s no cure, but there is treatment.

Hepatitis B is the only STD out there that you can get a vaccine for. See your doctor if you’re not sure if you’ve been vaccinated. Hepatitis B is a nasty STD that can cause liver failure and death.

So you have herpes. Do you feel like nobody could possibly understand what you’re going through? When you look around, do you see everyone as free from herpes and you as the only one who is suffering with it? Do you feel like this is your secretive battle to wage? All alone? With no support? Well… I have some great news for you then that will prove you plain wrong.

At least initially, herpes and loneliness seem to go hand-in-hand. The shame that is associated with herpes initially holds us back from connecting with others, especially in a romantic way. The shame of herpes might even hold us back from talking with friends and family about it. Herpes doesn’t equal loneliness; our own beliefs about what herpes means help to create our loneliness. It’s a classic self-fulfilling prophecy.

Let’s look at the definition of a self-fulfilling prophecy first to see the connection here. If you believe a false thing to be true (for example, you may think “I have herpes. That means I’m destined to be alone”), then your future actions and beliefs will fall in line with that false belief (you’ll start believing “I am unlovable” and in turn isolate yourself). Eventually through all of your isolation based on the belief that you’re unlovable – or dirty, or the only one suffering with herpes – your original belief ends up being true. You were right. You ARE alone.

So let’s summarize.

The herpes loneliness cycle as self-fulfilling prophecy

1. Shame and stigma about having herpes; you fear being unloved and alone.
2. Being rejected would prove that you’re unlovable, so you fear rejection.
3. Isolate yourself to avoid rejection.
You are alone.
4. Rinse & repeat… You feel ashamed about having herpes AND being alone.

Let’s get one thing really clear: You are absolutely NOT alone. Far, far from it. You’re amongst good company. You just don’t see how much potential support you have thanks to the secretive nature of herpes. It’s just not talked about. Even amongst the closest friends and family. Looking at the latest numbers and doing a quick calculation shows us there are more than 50 million Americans living with genital herpes (some estimates say it’s well over 60 million). That’s more than the population of South Africa! In other words, Herpesville could be its own sizable country. There are over 41,000 new infections DAILY. And just to give you a clear visual of the sheer amount of people 50 million is, if you were to have them all hold hands, there would be a herpes-people chain that wraps around the Earth twice (and then some). Get it? You are not alone. You just seem to be alone.

Once you realize you aren’t alone out there, it’s time to look inside to heal your own relationship with herpes.

Scabies is passed on from one individual to another through sexual contact and children too can get the disease through body contact. Basically scabies is a form of skin disease caused by parasites that make hole in to the skin and lay eggs there. Crusted scabies is more serious form of the disease which affects aged people having certain diseases such as HIV.

The parasitic mites is found on the genital region, fingers, hands, wrists, elbows, under arms, breasts, abdomen, nipples of women or feet and ankles. When scabies resides within the body it is possible that they can spread to bedding, towels or clothing.

Symptoms may not show in people with scabies, but after about six months symptoms may gradually appear. Symptoms of scabies include itching sensation on the affected region, tiny red spots or rash in the region and broken skin. It is impossible to detect scabies through naked eye. One can witness lines on the skin where the termite resides.

If you think you have scabies, get to the doctor for immediate checking and diagnosis. This is a form of sexual transmitted diseases that requires immediate treatment. The treatment is not much complicated as it involves usage of special cream or lotion. Doctors or pharmacist can give you the best advice regarding this. Treatment may differ if the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding.

Your sexual partner should undergo this STD treatment. Bedding, clothing and towels should be cleaned regularly. Treatment for scabies is vital as you can’t get rid of it without treatment. So, visit your health provider for the best treatment.

Scabies is a growing concern worldwide and till now it has the figure is 300 millions cases per year. Human scabies are into existence for 2,500 years. Sometimes, scabies occur in epidemics in hospitals, nursing homes and others.

Genital HPV infections are categorized as including either high risk or low risk strains. These different HPV strains are referred to by numbers (instead of names). The two most frequent high risk strains are 16 and 18, and they are associated with 70% of the cancers of the cervix which occur in the United States. The two most common low risk strains are 6 and 11, and they are associated with 90% of genital warts cases; these strains do not have any potential to progress into a malignancy but can be extremely contagious.

High risk strains (16 and 18) are frequently associated with HPV infections that persist and do not resolve spontaneously over time. The low risk strains (6 and 11) do not have any potential to progress to cancer of the cervix but can spread rapidly to new sites both on the person infected and to their partners.

Gardasil is an FDA approved vaccine which has been demonstrated to be protective against HPV. Gardasil is a quadrivalent virus that protects against four strains of HPV: 16 and 18 (the more aggressive strains that cause cervical cancer) and 6 and 11 (the less aggressive strains which cause highly contagious genital warts). Gardasil will give immunity to all four strains, but the vaccine is preventive, so it will only be effective against these strains if the person has not yet been exposed prior to receiving the virus.

The vaccine is extremely effective in preventing persistent infections and diseases caused by the HPV strains included in the vaccine, but only in those cases where the person has not been previously exposed to those specific viral strains before having received the vaccine. The vaccines are not therapeutic and cannot be used to treat active infection or disease, even if caused by vaccine-covered strains.

The Gardasil vaccine consists of a series of three injections over a six month period of time. The usual schedule is the initial injection, the second injection being given two months later and the third injection being given four months after the second. The shots are given in the arm.

A serious fraction of about five percent of USA population is infected with HPV. Human Pappilomavirus is the virus that causes genital warts, a life threatening form of sexually transmitted disease. This is the exact reason why treatment of such infection must be done in no time. One of the possible solutions to this is Wartrol. This article tackles some facts about the product you need to know before deciding to purchase one.

What is it?

Wartrol is a medicine specifically manufactured to treat all types of external and internal genital warts. It is made of natural components and is safe to use at home.

How does it work?

Being a homeopathic medicine, it helps stimulate reaction from the immune system to fight against genital warts. This will naturally dissolve the infection.

What are its advantages?

Because this product is taken orally, it is able to act on the lesions deep within your skin that other types of remedies cannot reach. Other natural medicines are in the form of a cream that needs to be applied on the surface of lesions. Aside from that, it also treats negligible genital warts in its early stage.

What are its ingredients?

The natural ingredients that made up the Wartrol include Nitric acid, wild yellow indigo, black sulfide of antimony, Potassium Hydrate, and arbor vitae, also known as the tree of life.

How long should you use it?

Because genital warts come in a variety of conditions, it is hard to tell an exact duration the product must be used. What’s certain is, the duration of Wartrol usage is dependent on the size of the lesions and the speed of response of your immune system.

How is it used?

Primarily, see to it that your mouth is clean as the medicine is taken orally. Pour a few drops under your tongue more than twenty minutes after food or liquid intake.

If you still want to seek further information about Wartrol, your questions may be answered in this website containing reviews on Wartrol.

Fact No. 1:

A sexually-transmitted disease (STD), also known as a sexually-transmitted infection (STI) is any infection or disease that is passed on from one person to another during sexual intercourse or other types of sexual activity, such as oral sex.

Some STDs, such as HIV/AIDS, can also be transmitted via the shared use of infected needles by drug users.

Fact No. 2:

Someone who is infected with an STD, but is showing no signs or symptoms can still infect their partners, if they engage in sexual activity, or, in the case of HIV/AIDS, share needles. People do not always know that they have a sexually-transmitted infection because they don’t have any symptoms of the disease. Symptoms of an STD such as herpes, for example, include blisters and sores. But even when they aren’t present, the disease may still be active. While the symptoms are not there, the infection lives on. The herpes virus can be transmitted up to days before the symptoms arrive. Living with herpes can be easy if you regularly see your doctor and follow a medical course.

Fact No. 3:

The only way to stay safe from infection and disease is to stop engaging in sexual activity with an infected partner or to use latex condoms. There are male and female condoms available on the market. The contraceptive pill, as the name suggests, prevents conception, but will never prevent an STD from being transmitted. If have been prescribed medication for an STD, you should always complete the course and see your doctor just in case further treatment is required.

“I have herpes.” Such a simple phrase, but can you feel how much power it has? When you say these three words, what effect do they have on you? There’s a way to move past these feelings. And the only way is through. There is a lot to see here.

How much time do you spend worrying about how your future will be negatively affected by herpes, wishing you didn’t have to deal with herpes, scared about when the next herpes outbreak with come? This spinning of the wheels is all too common with people suffering with herpes. Can’t you be more productive with your time? Isn’t there something more important to put your mind to? Of course there is.

Think of how much energy can be freed up in your life if that simple phrase can be just another three words. The power of words is unmistakable. And the word “herpes” has a whole lot wrapped up in it, doesn’t it? It has pain, anguish, not being enough, unable to find true love, disgust, worthlessness – the list continues. How can the word carry so much power? One reason is because it’s never said aloud except in the difficult times. It is shied away from. And in the shadows it weighs you down with shame.

Okay, enough of the hum-drummery. Let’s be perfectly clear: It simply doesn’t have to be like this. The process of moving above herpes as a barrier in life is to deal with it head on. Look at it. Study it. Figure out why you feel what you feel. And the first place to start is with the word itself. Herpes.

Try this. A first step to getting back the energy that’s tied up in herpes is to simply speak the word aloud. We avoid the word to save ourselves from having to feel what it might bring up, what it might remind us of. Do it in the privacy of your own home. Stand in front of your bathroom mirror. Look yourself in the eye. Say “I have herpes”… Then pay attention… become aware of what happens when you say it. Does your stomach tighten up? Does your heart sink? Do you feel like crying? Yelling? Do you feel like numbing out? Allow all of your feelings and emotions to come up in a safe way. But behind all of that be a loving witness to yourself as you experience everything.

Eventually, if you truly feel what is coming up instead of numbing it out, mention of the word will produce the similar effects as the phrase “I have the flu…” It no longer has nearly the charge.

HThousands of African Americans have died in the wake of the AIDS epidemic. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, AIDS is the leading cause of death among African Americans. African Americans die from HIV/AIDS related illnesses more than any other disease or race.

Religious, economic, and social obstacles have increased the inequality in healthcare. There is a stigma that surrounds the African American community as it pertains to HIV/AIDS. This stigma prevents African Americans from obtaining accurate information on prevention and combating the disease. In many cases African Americans are diagnosed too late, receive inadequate care, and benefit last from new treatments.

Because of the global HIV/AIDS epidemic, it is imperative to educate, and strengthen our people. It’s time for everyone to address the HIV/AIDS crisis in our communities. Because there are so many intricacies of HIV /AIDS treatment, opportunistic infections, and social issues, it’s time we know the facts.

The starling facts are, HIV/AIDS is the leading cause of death among Black women ages 25 to 34? Black women represent 64% of all new AIDS cases among women in the US. Did you know AIDS for Black people is 8 times that of White people? Did you know that millions and millions of people around the world have died at the hands of AIDS?

You ask what is HIV/AIDS? HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. HIV stops the body’s ability to fight infections, cancers and many other diseases. Many people have been infected for years without any symptoms. Even though there are no symptoms present, HIV can still be passed to others. AIDS stands for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. AIDS is the last and fatal stage of the HIV disease.

How is HIV/AIDS spread? HIV is spread by unprotected sexual contact with an infected person, sharing syringes with someone infected, or through blood transfusions.

Now that we know what it is and how it’s spread, why are our women, our people are still dieing at catastrophic rates? It’s because of social and cultural conditioning. The problem is institutional and internalized homophobia with brathas living on the Down Low. It is misinterpreted scriptures and hypocritical religion. The problem is the lack of accurate information, economic and healthcare disparities. The problem is the continued belief that HIV/AIDS is a Gay White Male Disease!

It is entirely up to us to confront and combat these issues. We can prevent and stop this systematic destruction of our people. Get involved and save the future of your race! People always ask, “what can I do, I’m just one person”? Well, you can start by volunteering at Black organizations that are fighting the war on AIDS. You can donate, write for a publication, or deliver a meal. Engage your friends, family, church, etc. Get everyone you know involved.

We as a community must unite as one. We must find ways to collectively end this new African Holocaust. It is every Black woman, man, and child’s responsibility to fight HIV/AIDS in our communities. Knowledge is our power. There is no armor quite like knowledge.

HIV/AIDS is swallowing our race at massive proportions. It has spread through our communities because of homophobia and not enough African Americans are trying to prevent it! Get the knowledge, and then get involved. Use yourself, your voice to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Being hit by an STD or Sexually Transmitted Disease is almost tantamount to being hit by a bad news that is a consequence of your own action, irresponsibility and ignorance. Two examples of STDs are genital warts and herpes. In this article, you will be given overview of the cure for these two diseases.

Treatment of Genital Warts

This disease is caused by HPV or Human Papilloma Virus when comes in contact with the skin. There are a number of options in treating this. Yet, none of them is proved be perfectly effective in removing the warts in the delicate areas and in preventing them from reappearing. Moreover, once this infection occurred, it is impossible for it to totally or permanently say goodbye. However, in rare cases, it may go away by itself. Only ten to twenty percent may experience that in a span of three to four months. Below are possible ways of treating genital warts.

Laser

Laser is used to physically damage HPV-stimulated lesion. Because it is basically for recurrent and extensive types, it would need anesthesia. The drawbacks of laser comprise longer healing time, scars, and high cost. Laser plume also causes possible infectious viral particles.

Cryotherapy

Using cryoprobe or liquid nitrogen, cryotherapy immobilizes the warts. This technique is one of the first priority because of its high response rates and low possible side effects.

Elecrtodesiccation

What electrodesiccation uses in destroying the infection is an electric current. Local anesthesia may be required in performing this treatment. This technique, however, may release smoke plume, which is potentially infectious.

Herpes Cure

This is another sexually transmitted disease that is caused by HSV or Herpes Simplex Virus. Be careful not to be infected by this because once you got hit, you will have this long-term. This is a chronic disease that often has recurring outbreaks.

There is, unfortunately, no cure for herpes. However, you can reduce the duration and frequency of its outbreaks by taking some effective medications.

Natural healing may help. It is also advised to keep the infection dry and clean during the outbreak. To cleanse it, some doctors would recommend having warm showers. Subsequently, gently dry it with a clean towel, or with a hair dryer on a low setting. Minimize the use of tight underclothing, creams and lotions to protect from chaffing.

Prevention is always better than cure.

Syphilis is a common and well known sexually transmitted disease (STD). Sexual intercoarse is the most common of 3 possible ways to contract it. If it is not transmitted sexually, it is possible, but rare, to get an infection through direct contact. Your body will also accept the disease from your birth mother. This is called congenital syphilis.

Many historic figures have suffered from syphilis, including Pope Alexander VI, Christopher Columbus, King Henry VIII and five of his wives, Francis I of France, Ivan the Terrible, Queen Elizabeth I, King Edward VI, Napoleon I of France, Edgar Allan Poe, Charles Darwin, Abraham Lincoln, Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, and Al Capone. As you can see, syphilis dates a long way back.

Known to many as “Syphilis – The Great Imitator” [http://www.syphilis-information.com], syphilis is a very difficult disease to diagnose. It is very often confused with other sexual diseases. There is a reported 35,000 cases of syphilis each year, 60% being male. Sadly, syphilis can take the life of its victims if it is left untreated. it can also result in damage to the heart, brain, and nerves. To treat the STD, there are two options; daily pills (this is the least effective method) or penicillin. For treatment, a half dose of penicillin is injected into each buttock. This is extremely painful, so procaine is added for some relief.

Syphilis can be atrocious or mild, but either way, you do not want it. If you are uncertain, get checked anyways, it could be the difference between life and death.
