The Pap smear test is an important health screening test for sexually transmitted diseases (STD), i.e. Chlamydia, gonorrhea, HPV (Human papilloma virus) and the ever increasing cervical cancer. Pap test should be done annually to detect the presence of cancerous and abnormal cells in the body and prevent disease. Pap test is must for any woman who has reached age of 21 and this recommendation is approved by The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Cancer Society.
The vital reason for cervical cancer is HPV and some of the specific strains. The introduction and popularity of pap smear test has led to great reduction in cervical cancer cases throughout United States. However, outside US, it is still a major health concern for many of the people. Several cervical cancer vaccines have been introduced, important being the Gardasil vaccine which is being used for past few years. It provides considerable protection against risky HPV strains. Insurance programs also cover up vaccine for women or girls who are through this age. The vaccine session consists of three vaccinations, same as that of vaccinations of hepatitis B. Gonorrhea is a very common Sexually Transmitted Disease, or STD, with over 700,000 cases reported every year in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The highest rates of infection are reported among sexually active teenagers and young adults, and African Americans. Left undiagnosed and untreated, gonorrhea can result in serious and permanent damage in both men and women so it’s essential that the infection be treated as early as possible.
In men infected with gonorrhea, there may be no symptoms. Some will experience a white, yellow, or green discharge and/or a burning sensation while urinating at any point from two to thirty days after infection. Occasionally, symptoms can include swollen or painful testicles. If untreated, gonorrhea can cause a painful duct condition that may result in infertility in men. Contracting a sexually transmitted disease can change your life forever-and you may not even be aware of it until it is too late. You may have heard horror stories of people who have suffered from the effects of a sexually transmitted disease (also commonly referred to as an STD,) and you probably would rather not experience that for yourself. In your quest to become more educated on the subject, we’ll begin with one of the most common sexual diseases, Gonorrhea (Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacterium).
Anyone who is sexually active can get gonorrhea (also known as the clap). This STD tends to breed within warm, moist environments-most often the reproductive tracts, such as the fallopian tubes, cervix, and uterus of women. Other places that gonorrhea can dwell are the urethra (in both males and females,) as well as the mouth, eyes, and throat. It can even be found in the lower extremities of the body, such as the anus. Sexually transmitted disease is medically defined as the transfer of sexually transmitted infections from one person to another through sexual contact. Though a person may appear really clean and hygienic, it can never be an assurance that that person is already free of this kind of disease.
It is important to note that sexually transmitted disease includes different kinds of infectious diseases. These are gonorrhea, syphilis, genital herpes and the likes. Men and women cannot be exempted from getting these kinds of diseases. Frequent sexual contact with another person can bring about infections which may further be classified into different types. If one is engaged in an activity that would require such and finds no concern to use any of the suggested protection, like a condom, it is no doubt that those persons involved will develop such kinds of diseases. Herbal remedies for gonorrhea are meant to be used in conjunction with antibiotics, so that the effectiveness of the drugs is enhanced. However, it is important to discuss any herbal remedy with the doctor prior to starting it as the preparation may have a counter effect when taken with certain medications.
Gonorrhea is caused by a bacterium, and this bacterium can be effectively fought by consuming 500 mg of Arjuna three times a day. This herb has antibacterial properties and helps to destroy the bacterium in the body. It is seen that even barberry, goldenseal and Oregon graperoot have similar chemical compounds and are effective anti-bacterials. You can even use any of the aforementioned herbs in tincture form. Around 15-30 drops in a quarter cup of water taken three times a day can help in eliminating the bacterium from the body. However, pregnant women and those suffering from gallbladder problems should refrain from taking these herbal remedies. If a person is suffering from glaucoma or heart-related ailment, he or she should not taken goldenseal. Another herbal anti-bacterial is scutellaria. Take around 2,000 mg of the herb three times a day. However, if a person is suffering from diarrhea, scutellaria should not be taken as it can worsen the condition. The clap, or Gonorrhea as it is known in the medical community is having new concerns about this otherwise harmless sexually transmitted disease. Over 700,000 new cases are being reported each year and this could signal the beginning of a new epidemic with this STD as ground zero if it isn’t addressed ASAP.
For quite some time Gonorrhea has been thought of as really no big deal. Essentially with some low-grade antibiotics it was gone with no lasting effects. Just recently however a new strain of this STD has been uncovered and this one unlike its predecessor is one that is drug resistant.
This disease is one of the most commonly spread sexually transmitted diseases in the United States. This is due to a few factors that experts know for sure including symptoms that could take up to 30 days to surface and women who have the disease, are carriers and spread it without having any symptoms and unless they are tested they might never know they have the STD or that they are passing it on to other partners unaware. These facts make this new strain especially troubling for health disease experts. Continue reading ‘Gonorrhea – New Strain May Be Drug Resistant’ »

Most diseases of reproductive systems are transmitted by sexual activity and are called sexually transmitted diseases or STD. More than 30 bacterial, viral, or parasitic diseases have been identified as sexually transmitted. In the United States, it is estimated that over 15 million new cases of STDs occur annually. Many of these diseases can be successfully treated with antibiotics and can be largely prevented by the use of condoms. However, over 60 million Americans have STDs, mostly viral, for which there is no effective cure.

Syphilis is a systemic disease caused by spirochete Treponema pallidum. It is transmitted by sexual contact with a person who has an active spirochete-containing lesion. Like gonorrhea and Chlamydia, it must be reported to public health departments, which is a cause for further embarrassment. This can be avoided by going to STD clinics since they are not required to report it; this will keep your condition a secret and your identity confidential.

Gonorrhea is caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae, a gram positive diplococcus bacteria that prosper on columnar intermediary epithelium of the mucous casing. Symptoms begin after a two to seven day incubation period. In males, they contain urethritis which is the pain in urination and regularity or urination, and a urethral expulsion. With no treatment, the virus might extend to the testes, scarring the tubules, and causing permanent sterility. If not cured, the infection is simply spread between sexual partners. It repeatedly occurs alongside with chlamydia infection.
