Chlamydia is a disease caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. It is something that is usually transmitted through intercourse, or oral or anal sex. Even a mother, when giving vaginal birth to her child, can pass the disease to the baby. This bacterium, similar to another sexually transmitted disease, resides in the cervix, urethra, throat, and rectum. Almost anyone who is sexually active is at risk for contracting Chlamydia, and the truth is, there are many people infected with the disease unknowingly, who end up passing it on to other sexual partners.
